HELLO DEAR FRIEND!
I am working on a dance show right now and I really want to share it with you. It is special and unlike any dance show I have worked on before. I would love for you to be a part of it. It is called "UNION" and the show will be June 8-10, 2018 at Ambient+Studio in West End.

HERE’S THE BACKSTORY….
When I was a full-time dance instructor and choreographer I did a lot of Musical theatre choreography. I did "FAME" at the local high school where I was living at the time. One particular cast member really stood out. So much that I encouraged him to come to class at the studio where I taught full-time. Pretty much demanded actually. Well, he did along with a couple of other cast members. (I'm happy to say that all of them now work professionally in music and dance.) This individual was also a national black belt Karate champion, so movement was not something new but rather of different intention.

I started my dance career late. I was 19 years old when I moved from gymnastics and cheerleading to true dance. I loved it. I was instantly addicted. I could not take enough class or learn enough about this art form. After a few weeks of class with this new dance student, I began to see the same consuming curiosity in addition to raw talent. Within six months he choreographed his first piece. It was better than anything I had done up to that point. I was about six years into teaching advanced dance classes at this time. I had to up my game! I must admit. It stung a little. This student challenged me to stay one step ahead, to be more creative, and to push myself in every way to be the best teacher possible. Within a year this dancer approached me and said, “I think I want to be a dancer. I mean, I want to do this forever.” My reply, “We better get to work. Auditions for college dance programs start soon. You’ll want to be at them. I have to teach you everything I know between now and then.”

And we worked. Every day for the short amount of time we had to prepare. He chose a college and went for it. He was accepted into one of the top dance programs in the country. He began to choreograph, then to teach, and soon it was time for me to move on to Atlanta. I needed to move on for myself and this allowed opportunities for this younger gifted dancer to take over teaching classes and have room to grow.

He began to develop his own style of movement. Unique, exceptionally genuine and beautiful. His style and his name became a new standard for contemporary dance in the Southeast region of dance competitions. Winning best choreography awards and being booked for choreography gigs and classes everywhere. Again, he worked. He paid his dues and made his name as a Contemporary choreographer by traveling, teaching and judging. He also became a co-owner of our former studio and did amazing things there.

As you can imagine, we became very close friends after all our time working together. Dance soulmates would not be going too far. Once asked by a waitress, "Are you two brother and sister?," and without discussion or hesitation we simultaneously answered, "yes!". We have an understanding of each other’s obsession with movement and sometimes it is like we are the same person. We always say we came from the same stardust.

Life brought this beautiful creature to Atlanta about four years ago. I have been so happy to have my dance bud so close!! He decided to do a show. Again, we worked. It was stunning. Lots of tears and emotions. A lifetime poured out into that show at 7 Stages. And now, the time has come for another show. This show too will be amazing. And we are working!

SO, PLEASE LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO MY BEST FRIEND, JON CARR.
